The Apprenticeshop has been building and restoring quality wooden boats since 1972. During this time, we have launched hundreds of boats ranging from 40’ schooners to 20’ steam launches to 8’ prams. These have been built for individuals and for experiential education programs such as Outward Bound, Ocean Classroom, and HMS Rose, and may be found on the shores of Maine and on the decks of large ships around the world. Our approach to both education and client relationships focuses heavily on individual attention. As a buyer, you can expect that our staff will work closely with you to customize your project to your individual needs. You can choose from our extensive boat catalog or bring us your own design ideas. As an educational tool, commissions allow apprentices to work on many different designs and gain experience in a wide variety of building techniques. When a 10’ Abeking and Rasmussen yacht tender is being built next to a 24’ lobsterboat, there is much information that can be shared between crews as apprentices ask each other questions, and share building tips and tricks. Since other schools often build many boats to the same design, commissions make our program unique. Contact us today if you are interested in learning more about a custom commission or our apprenticeship program. |
