Three Maine-based painters, Leslie Anderson of Portland, Ann Mohnkern of Yarmouth, and Louisa Wickard of Cumberland will present their first group show “Open Spaces, Maine”, in an urban “open space", a vacant street-level office at 16 Casco Street in Portland’s Arts District. All three painters interpret the Maine landscape, although with very different voices. Leslie Anderson chronicles the precious, but diminishing, open spaces of the Blue Hill Peninsula. Her paintings, awash in color, have the feel of being made in the open air. Ann Mohnkern, a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists, paints the ocean in all its moods, from hurricane force to tranquil repose. Louisa Wickard has developed a practice of painting several particular trees near her home in Cumberland. While the trees remain the same in many works, each piece is made unique by the artist’s use of color, texture and pattern. An opening reception will be held during Portland's First Friday Art Walk, Friday, May 1 from 5 - 8 pm. Parking is available behind the building. For more information, contact leslie Anderson at
