Persistence Media of Portland’s trailer for a docu-reality style TV show about lobsterboat racing, called Relentless Quest, World’s Fastest Lobsterboat, has received thousands of views since being placed on YouTube (www.youtube.com [1]) in early summer. That, paired with national exposure via a New York Times article [2] that featured the races in the lobstering mecca of Stonington, Maine, bodes well for the company’s plans for a nationally distributed program.
“Americans got a taste of Maine’s unique lobsterboat racing scene through the Relentless
Quest video on YouTube and the New York Times coverage,” said Persistence Media Executive Producer Gene Landry in a press release. He added that people are really attracted to the sport, and said that certainly bodes well for the company’s plans for a series.
Persistence Media has already captured nearly 50 hours of high-definition video from five different lobsterboat races. Landry said the production could take several paths depending on which networks agree to broadcast the races. Landry said possibilities include a series of half-hour reality-style shows on the network of the Boston Red Sox (NESN), a one-hour docu-reality show for distribution on a national HD network, and a documentary for release at independent film festivals.
