LaBrie Small Craft

Modern Row/Sail Skiff

Many historical boating books contain wonderful descriptions of rowing and sailing craft developed over the years to serve the needs of fishermen and watermen. At LaBrie Small Craft, modern interpretations of these traditional boats are our sole interest.

Our Specialty

Good rowing boats do not always make for good sailboats. Of course, the reverse is often also true. Fusing the two disparate types—rowing boat and sailboat—to create an all-round functional and enjoyable craft is an intriguing design problem; a problem that we are very fond of. Good hints at proper design lie in traditional working craft.

At LaBrie Small Craft we have further narrowed this focus to include only double-ended row/sail skiffs between 15 to 20 feet in length. Boats in this size-range and type offer an excellent compromise between the ease-of-handling of a small, light boat and the capacity and seaworthiness of a larger boat.

The end result is a boat that is simple to use, easily maintained, and trailerable. Moreover, they are fun to use and will never, ever, need fuel to operate.
