Founded in 1970, the trust was a pioneer in the use of conservation easements as a way to protect land. Since that time we have worked to protect more than 127,000 acres in Maine, including more than 275 entire coastal islands. MCHT is committed to the highest ethical standards. We work in a collaborative, pragmatic and problem-solving fashion, instilling a conservation ethic by connecting people to the land.
