Artist Holly -Marie Haining views the traditional character of the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show as a “natural” setting for her 18th- and 19th-century period revival style of painting.
Haining paints on a variety of typical and non-typical mediums including canvas, board, walls (murals), and antique furniture. Although she typically works on furniture by commission, Haining does offer a limited selection of furniture, paintings, and accessories.
For Haining, the creative process is very personal on many levels. In fact, when working on a special “found” piece, she often lives with it in her studio for several months to a year before the painting itself becomes crystallized in her mind. She notes that “this is the most gratifying part of the process…. envisioning who might enjoy the piece and where it will be used, like a seaside porch or a sun-filled bedroom. I love the idea that my work may remain here for someone to enjoy long after I am gone… that’s the beauty of creating art.”
This is Haining’s first Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show. She will have a selection of marine paintings, boat bags featuring her whaling designs, sea chests, and small furniture. Haining will be on hand to discuss her work and answer questions regarding custom painting. Visit her website at www.seawitchstudio.com [1].
