Rockland, Maine: In addition to docks full of fine, Maine-built yachts, and tents full of everything needed for life on the coast, the MAINE BOATS, HOMES & HARBOR SHOW is pleased to announce that two groups -- Directions: Maine Crafts Guild and the Maine Wood Products Association -- will be displaying their work in dedicated tents at this year’s show. The show is presented by Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors magazine, and will be held August 10-12, 2007. Gates open daily at 10 a.m.
Directions: Maine Crafts Guild
Lou Charlett, President of Directions: Maine Crafts Guild, said that the MAINE BOATS, HOMES & HARBOR SHOW is a natural fit for the guild. “The level of quality already displayed at the show is a perfect backdrop to what we do,” he said, “and we think we will be a perfect addition to the show as well. The crowds who come to this show have grown to expect the very best of what Maine has to offer, and we’re pleased and excited about being a part of it.”
The guild has more than 90 members whose specialties range from ceramics to woodworking, jewelry, glassblowing, the fiber arts, and more. Directions exhibitors will include Aragona Designs; Charlett Woodworking; Melissa Green Ceramics; Handmade Papers by Virginia Sarsfield; David Lancaster, Heirloom Bowls; Jeff Lind Fine Woodworking; Loten Art Lighting; Maggie’s Farm; Maine Hooked Rugs; Mermaid Bindery; Mountain Street Pottery; Portland Glassblowing; Skowhegan Handwovens; Studio at Mainely Pottery; and Stephen Zeh, Basket Maker. Members are juried for entrance and are committed to excellence in their work. To promote the traditions of fine craft, Directions awards a scholarship to a worthy Maine high school student each year.
Maine Wood Products Association:
Show organizers are also pleased to announce that the Maine Wood Products Association, which represents hundreds of Maine-based companies that create quality wood items and furniture, will return to the show in 2007. This will be the fourth year that the association has displayed its members’ expertise with native and exotic species, including fine furniture for home and office, custom cabinetry and storage options, and decorative and gift items, in a dedicated tent at the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show. This year’s MWPA exhibitors will include Cathedral Woodworking, Dailey Woodworking, William Diffenderfer Fine Furniture, Robert Elliott Cabinetmaker, Fiddlehead Wood Arts, Howell's Woodland Products, Maine Cedar Hot Tubs, Oh Yeah Comfy, Penobscot Bay Porch Swings, Premium Specialty Hardwoods, A.E. Sampson & Son, Sebago Furniture, Second Wind, Sonlight Creations, and The Woodsmiths.
Bob MacGregor, Executive Director of MWPA, considers the MAINE BOATS, HOMES & HARBORS SHOW to be one of the group’s premier events each year. “The show has quickly become known as a great place to find fine furniture and home accessories, showcasing the finest woodworkers and craftspeople in our industry,” said MacGregor.
Publisher and show founder, John K. Hanson, Jr., said, “Walking through the MAINE BOATS, HOMES & HARBORS SHOW will be like walking through the pages of our magazine. Visitors will be able to see first hand the great variety of craft and commerce that's particular to coastal Maine. It’s simply the best $10 you'll spend this summer.”
