The Maine I Love - Linn Sage

Photographs by Linn Sage

By The Editors
Linn Sage has been documenting life around her in Maine and New York for many years. She has shown her work at a number of galleries in Maine, including Courthouse Gallery Fine Art in Ellsworth. Great Gott Island is one of her favorite spots. “It might seem paradoxical that what I enjoy most upon arriving on Mount Desert Island is heading out to one of the offshore islands in search of a more pure Maine experience. It is an escape to an earlier time, a simpler way of life. Only when tide, time, and weather allow can one dock there. Rimmed by pink granite, crowned by a forest of dark spruce, Gott’s village of pristine white clapboard houses rises above a field framing the gleaming white-fenced cemetery that faces west, full of history and rich with stories. No roads, just paths to explore. Later after I return to the winter city, Gott remains an island floating in my mind.” For more of Sage’s work, visit www.linnsage.com.
