Seacoast Mission Seeks a Ship’s Steward

Are you a people person who likes to cook and has a taste for life at sea? The Maine Seacoast Mission has an opening for a steward to join the crew aboard Sunbeam, its 74-foot steel-hulled boat that delivers meals and services to the downeast outer islands east of Boothbay Harbor.

The steward is responsible for providing meals for the crew, housekeeping, and hosting guests aboard the boat and also at the Mission’s campus in Cherryfield. The steward also organizes onboard community meals, on-island pot-luck dinners and events around the holidays. Overnight travel, day trips and unusual hours are all part of the job. This is a salaried postion, with benefits. You can find a job description and see work requirements at https://seacoastmission.org/employment/.

“The Sunbeam is a mainstay on the islands of Matinicus, Monhegan, Isle au Haut, Frenchboro, Swan’s Island, Great Cranberry, and Islesford, and offers some services for Vinalhaven, North Haven, Islesboro, and the Casco Bay islands,” the Mission says on its website, https://seacoastmission.org/. Out in the islands, Sunbeam is seen as a traveling community center, bringing residents access to nurses, telehealth and educational programming, and providing meals. The Mission notes that the steward is often the first and last person the islanders see when Sunbeam pays a visit.
